Testimonials:

"...transformed my birth experience from scary and chaotic to beautiful and informed."

When I went into labor, Emily was just what I needed. Not much went to plan and Emily made sure I understood what my doctors and nurses were saying, explained my options and the potential pros and cons in plain language to me, and never made me feel bad when I strayed from my birth plan. When I wanted to stick it out through my contractions, she helped me find positions to ease the pain and distracted me. When I decided I needed an epidural, she made sure that happened as quick as possible. Even in the middle of the night, after 9 hours of labor while my husband napped and I tried to relax, Emily was there at the foot of my bed with a hand on my foot as she caught a few minutes of sleep so I could wake her at any time. When it was time to push, she helped me re-center myself by combing my hair and helping me freshen up after a long night of labor.

I would recommend Emily as a doula because she completely transformed my birth experience from scary and chaotic to beautiful and informed.

"... my dream come true delivery for my 1st born!"

We were referred to Emily and only heard amazing things about her and our personalities worked well together. We are so glad we chose her!

I was able to have my dream come true delivery for my 1st born! If I didnt work with Emily, it would have been a different story.

I highly recommend Emily to anyone looking for a Doula. It gave us the exact support and results that we needed!

We loved working with Emily, she was absolutely incredible and would love to work with her again when we have our second child! 🙂

"... struggling with my eating disorder, and needed support"

I was struggling with my eating disorder, and needed support with meal planning and help continuing to dismantle internalized beliefs about diet culture.

I really appreciate that Emily uses the intuitive eating approach, and practices health at every size. Emily is very understanding of all situations and struggles, and is able to take into account things like my access to food.

Emily helped me sustain my eating for a couple of months while I set up a residential treatment stay. Emily also helped me get set up with an eating disorder treatment facility which was essential in my nourishment journey.

Emily was very understanding and sympathetic to my struggles. She worked with me, without judgement.

I would recommend anyone who wants to dismantle diet culture and find power in nourishing their body to Nourished Journey.

"... consistent, informed, culturally-aware, trauma-sensitive, wholistic, and gentle."

Emily provided a safe space for me to discuss whatever was on my mind and was able to be both a sounding board, and a practitioner who challenged disordered thoughts and behaviors in a caring, gentle-yet-clear way. Emily helped me foster realistic and sustainable options for food intake and taught me about intuitive eating.

Emily is consistent, informed, culturally-aware, trauma-sensitive, wholistic, and gentle.

I would absolutely recommend Emily and have! I have two friends who have seen her as well and really valued her care.

"She was able to ask the medical staff questions that I wasn’t able to at that moment."

I was pregnant with my first and super nervous about the birth.

After interviewing several doulas, we felt she was best able to support our growing family. She was knowledgeable and well trained. Her ideals lined up with ours. We really clicked.

We reached out to Emily at the end of July for our November birth. We met with her a couple of times prior to going into labor where we discussed my/our concerns. She was able to provide me with some resources prior to the birth that helped me better prepare. In the end I had the unmedicated water birth I had wanted.

In addition to helping me mentally prepare for labor, Emily was there for every step of my labor. She supported me first by phone, then at my house, and ultimately at the hospital (it was a planned hospital birth).

I feel like Emily was a very “hands off” doula in my case, but it’s what I needed. She wasn’t all up in everything, but she was always there with a vomit bag or a sip of juice between contractions. She was able to ask the medical staff questions that I wasn’t able to at that moment. There was one instance when I was offered IV anti-nausea meds. I wanted an unmedicated birth and didn’t have and IV line in. Getting the meds would mean getting out of the bathtub. I wasn’t in any state to ask questions but Emily piped up and asked if I was dehydrated or if there were any issues with baby’s heart rate that indicated a NEED for the meds. There was no medical need, I was just throwing up a lot and the medical team thought it might make me more comfortable. I was fine throwing up (Emily was somehow magically there with a bag every single time) so I declined the meds and ended up birthing in the tub.

Emily is not only knowledgeable and smart, she is kind. She wants what’s best for her clients. She doesn’t push her own agenda.

I would recommend (and have recommended) Nourished Journey to any pregnant woman I know. Having a doula is such a blessing and a privilege, but is so necessary.

While my pregnancy and labor were both largely uncomplicated, I don’t think I could have had the birth experience I wanted without Emily. I was able to labor in the way that felt best for me and ultimately had a very positive experience. With thoughts of a second child in our future, my partner and I have already decided we would reach out to Emily again.
